Music Played In Vampire Diaries
Continuing the public's obsession with all things vampire, the CW network is now showing "The Vampire Diaries" on Thursdays, which started September 10th, 2009 in the time slot previously occupied by the network's long-running "Smallville".
The music played in the series has played a big part in the success of the show and fan forums all over the world are eager to get the lowdown on who sang the music played in each episode. There is little doubt that a Vampire Diaries Soundtrack album is not far off and the album will be a resounding success.
Many critics were saying that the series was a blatant rip-off of "Twilight" but this overlooks the fact that the series of books on which "Vampire Diaries" is based were published many years before "Twilight" so that is an invalid claim, but it has to be said that the publicity that "Twilight" received was almost certainly influential in the decision to go ahead with a TV series based on the books, plus of course, the success of HBO's "True Blood" played a significant part in the decision to go ahead, yet CBS's "Moonlight", a huge favorite with fans, was axed after only one season, much to the despair of its large vampire-loving fan base.
There has been a lot of interest in the music played in the episodes. A lot of atmospheric songs were chosen by the show's producers to be featured in the soundtrack and the one song in the very first episode that seems to have attracted the biggest response in terms of interest and sales is "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo, a very good re-working of Kate Bush's original from many years ago.
